Two Lunch Tuesdays is a volunteer initiated program managed in schools by individual PTA’s (Parent Teacher Association’s) parental volunteers and students. The program helps to fight poverty in the community while at the same time engaging volunteers and students in the schools with the value of giving back by helping to feed those in need. The program also helps to cultivate an awareness of hunger, and needs of homelessness in communities, while providing a safe and consistent platform for students to learn the joy of paying it forward to those less fortunate.
This school year Broken Chains collected 35,023 lunches from 29 schools!! These lunches are distributed to the Las Vegas Rescue Mission, several Salvation Army locations, US Vets, Catholic Charities, Casa de Luz, Help USA and the homeless on our streets.
One time last year Pastor Cody took one of his dogs (Bear) along and the kids had so much fun with him, that he takes them every time (now he has a new puppy, Wolf, who goes along with Bear).
We want to thank Beth Mundo, who was very instrumental at the beginning in getting this program started and continues to help tremendously with running the program; and we want to thank all the schools, all the parents and all the students who participate!! You guys are awesome!!
At our Wednesday Outreach, 5/23, we held a Celebration of Life for Nelson and Ramon Escobar. Both of these men had been homeless for many years with our ministry and passed away within a week of each other; and both had given their hearts to Jesus Christ.
From May 13 thru May 18 Pastor Mario Murillo, from Reno, held “Living Proof”, a tent revival down on north Bruce street.
Pastor Cody and one of our board members, Kevin Chapman attended most of the services; and they were all really fantastic. There was praise and worship, a healing time and great sermons.
Pastor Murillo hopes to return with another tent revival this coming fall.
Every Wednesday night Broken Chains holds an outreach at Myron Levitt Park (formerly JC Park) at Sahara & Eastern. The outreach runs from 5:30pm until approximately 8pm. We have worship, a short message and then a great BBQ’d dinner.
Please feel free to join us any Wednesday night; we do close for the month of July each year to give our volunteers some time off. Also, if you would like to cook for an outreach or donate to the ministry just go to our website, vegasbrokenchains.org, for details.
Everyone is invited to attend our weekly Bible study and BBQ. It is held at Myron Levitt Park (the old JC Park) on Wednesdays at 5:30 pm. The park is just north of the intersection of Eastern Avenue & Sahara Avenue. If you would like more details including a Google map, please visit our website contact page. Come and join us any Wednesday!
