Broken Chains Ministry

Monthly Newsletter – December 2017

Broken Chains Weekly Wednesday Outreach

Every Wednesday evening Broken Chains holds a homeless outreach in Myron Levitt Park (the old JC Park). The park is at Eastern and Sahara and you are invited to join us any Wednesday evening. We start at 5:30pm and finish approximately 7:30-8:00. Everyone is welcome to come; children too!

We start with worship, followed by a short message by Pastor Cody or Kevin Chapman, and then we serve a complete BBQ meal to all the homeless in attendance.

We also hand out snacks, socks, sleeping bags, hats & gloves in winter; and have clothing & hygiene items laid out for the homeless to select from.

There are lots of things for the volunteers to do; BBQ and serve food, hand out whatever we bring that week, visit & pray with the homeless, help with clean-up.

We would love to have you and your family or friends join us any Wednesday. Just show up; you don’t have to notify us. If you would like to cook for an outreach we do need to know at least a week in advance. Please contact us if you wish to cook and we will give you all the details.

Other Highlights

Thanksgiving in the Park

Wednesday night 11/22 we held a surprise Thanksgiving in the park for the homeless. Pastor Cody and several of our volunteers cooked turkeys and all the trimmings and brought everything to the park. The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino provided all the side dishes and desserts (oh my.. those desserts were wonderful!!) They provided servers to coordinate everything, serve the homeless and clean up afterward and they also brought many volunteers to help with the event!!

Thank you, Hard Rock, for your concern for the less fortunate in our city!!

Sleeping Bags, Sleeping Bags, Sleeping Bags!!!

Now that the cold weather is here, we are in great need of sleeping bags for the homeless. Please prayerfully consider donating sleeping bags to the ministry (old or new, 1 or 20, everything helps). If you can help, please contact us through our website.

Thanking you ahead of time!!! (Check out this link to purchase inexpensive good quality sleeping bags).

To date, we have received 210 sleeping bags. A big thank you to all of those who donated to Broken Chains; GOD IS GOOD!!!

Hats & Scarfs for the Homeless

We have several ladies who knit & crochet for the ministry and we are collecting yarn to make hats & scarves for the homeless in our community. If you go to Hope Church just bring the yarn to church and leave it for Broken Chains in the lobby.

If you don’t go to Hope Church but would like to assist in this project, please contact us for further information on where to send your donation.

If you are an avid knitter, please consider knitting or crocheting hats & scarves and sending them to us.
